Excellent crash test video tool
Consumer reports has this great tool that allows you to watch crash tests of your vehicle. The real tests are shown, run by CR, and their ratings are explained with detail placed on the finer points of what’s happened.
Very useful tool, though there are many makes an models not represented, so it’s really a sampling of the market place. Since Consumer Reports buys… it’s own cars for testing, it’s hardly realistic to assume they would have every single model offered for sale in North America in the database.
Most common models are there, and I was pleased to see my wife’s new Jetta (2006) got the highest ratings CR awards in both frontal-offset and side impact tests. Scoring a Good is as good as it gets, and I have to say, seeing the airbags all deploy is a comforting visual.
